Review: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay by J.K. Rowling

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I borrowed this via my libraries ebook app.

I started reading this before I had seen the film. This is my first screenplay that I have ever read. I am not overly keen on reading books in this format (that doesn’t reflect on the book at all though).

Usually when reading a book I prefer to NOT have seen the film, however, due to circumstances I ended up watching the film after I had only read 3-4 scenes from the screenplay. The rest of the book, I found, was actually much more easier to read once I could see the scenes playing out from the film. As a screenplay is written for screen, it definitely helps to be able to SEE the scenes instead of relying on a few words to describe it.

An excellent addition to the HP series, hopefully the future films will also be published in this format so I can continue reading them as well as watching.

Review: William Shakespeare’s Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope

William Shakespeare's Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope
William Shakespeare’s Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope by Ian Doescher

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I am in no way, shape or form a Star Wars fan. I’ve seen the films, but only because I felt like I had to know what everyone over at www.facebook.com/groups/filmclub13 was talking about. I’ve never read any of the comics or anything so chancing upon this in the charity shop near me was an odd find. It was one of those where I really fancied it due to it being written in the style of Shakespeare. If you’ve seen “A New Hope” then you already know the story within this book, but with added “Thou”s and such like.
Doescher does a good job of translating the standard american script to that of an English Great so big props to the author for his work.
Would I go on to read the others, looking at my “To Read” pile, probably not for the foreseeable future.
